1. I remember when " Black And Mild (colored pencil version) " was done, I was excited to show my sister, the drawing. It was a big accomplishment, at the time. I drew it on a larger sized paper ( 14×17 ), and it was another early attempt with colored pencils, and improving my blending skills. I showed my sister and she stared at it for a moment, along with her friend. She then replied " Huh. I like the black and white version better. " And I replied " But I worked so hard on this piece! " And she said " So, I'm entitled to my opinion. " She is absolutely correct. But it certainly was not what I wanted to hear! But, then her friend told me " Your sister has a point. You have a thing going with black and white. The way you draw black people, in black and white is good. " It made me think more, about my sister's comment. I respect it even more now, because I often agree with my black and white renderings, more than the colored versions.
4. " Doggystyle " is an older piece, that I created, while experimenting with colored pencils, during an early stage. It is still a solid piece to me, after all of these years. I would like to redraw it someday, with pen and ink. The reflection of the bottom's face in thr mirror was important, to a full reveal a view of the face portrayng one man, if not both. My color blending has improved tremendously since this was colored.
5. " Man Wearing A Hoodie " reminds me of the short, muscular and stocky men that I occasionally see. There are rugby athletes and soccer players, that are similar to this man's size and height. I created three different versions of this image. The other two, were drawn in a graphite version and a pen and ink version.
