1. There was a man, who once said to me in a conversation, that some men are growers. " Growers? " I replied. " What is a grower? " He said it is when a man does not appear to be well endowed, until they have sex, and really get into it. I chuckled and told him, that it was my first time hearing such a thing. After that conversation, I suddenly thought of a story, related to what was said. I wanted to write about two men in this kind of situation. I wrote a story entitled " The Grower ". I created several drawings from the idea, as it related to the written story. This is one of the drawings.
2. I began to notice how several men, who delivered to my job were attractive to me. There have even been some that were my favorite to see, through the years. And I wanted to create some drawings, that displayed situations, when certain couriers became intimate with some customers. It is not a taboo occurrence, and is always possible. I have heard of such stories, and they were very interesting and arousing. " The Courier " and " The Baggage Handler " series were inspired by such inspirations.
3. This piece always reminds me, to never change my vision, to adapt to someone else's standard. My sister would tell me about lgbtq companies, accepting submissions, for their publications. It seemed to irk her, that I was content with drawing for myself, most of the time. She told me the site to explore, and find publication companies, currently accepting artwork. I found a few, and read the requirements. Well, my work would have been too graphic to enter. I altered this piece to conceal their erections. I regretted this, because my edited versions were not accepted. And I loved the original versions more. I have a sketch of the initial version. I think about drawing the original idea again of " The Janitor And The Executive ".
5. I was experimenting with the Micron pens, to determine if they would be an exclusive approach to my various ideas. It was not yet decided, how I would draw portraits, with these pens. I was unsure about the amount of detail to include, such as hair texture, shadings and backgrounds. Then, I decided to try a simple, but effective approach. I usually see this style in comics, and often the Microns are used for such a genre. At the time of completion, I considered this piece too flat. As I have often complained about bold lines, and the black brush pens flattening my compositions, this is another example. But, now I appreciate it more, and think this piece is effective. It demonstrates what brush pens and Microns can achieve with less detail, than I usually apply. " The Baggage Handler " is the first drawing created, from this series.
6. I have been creating more comics, since this one was produced. I still struggle with accepting how tedious the process can be. But, it is very rewarding, to see the finished results. This was an earlier attempt, involving a character, I am suddenly interested in exploring again, soon. I wanted to experiment with the combination of ballpoint pen, ink washes, multiple panels and lettering on one page. The results were satisfactory to me. But, I abandoned the idea and continued with less tedious projects. I consider most of my work tedious in some way or another.
